ADMITTING SOCIAL SERVICES OB Admitting, ED Admitting, and OPD Admitting |
All service cases ordered admission will undergo MSS Assessment and Evaluation conducted by a Medical Social Worker. Social Classification is arrived at as per AO 51-A s.2000 and AO 31 s.2015 within 24 hours from admission order. The social classification is the basis for the social services availed by a service patient in the hospital. |
SPECIAL SERVICES Emergency Department Social Services, OPD Social Services, WCPC, Infectious Disease, Neonatology, Brain Center, Oncology, Heart Center, CBS, Geriatric, PYP, Kaambag-HACT |
Medical Social Worker conducts eligibility assessment for non-emergency Specialty Center cases of Brain, Heart, Oncology, Neonatology, and Geriatric centers recommended to undergo special procedures. MSW discussed requirements needed specific to the needs and costs of the procedures that need to be complied prior Social Classification and MSS assistance approval. ED and OPD Social Services involve case management and social service provisions with minimum or no requirements at all. While Women and Child Protection Center (WCPC), Center for Behavioral Sciences (CBS) , Program for Young Parent (PYP), Kaambag -HIV-Aids Core Team (HACT) social services involve case management and provision of psychosocial support, community reintegration, and referral services on top of the tangible health assistance. Psychosocial support services cut across all services of the Medical Social Service. |

SPECIAL PROGRAMS Malasakit Center and POS-OREP |
Malasakit Center of VSMMC, the first of its kind in the Philippines, is a one stop shop that houses Philhealth, DSWD,PCSO and DOH-VSMMC Medical Social Service counterpart in one center that answers to the medical and medical-related assistance needs of in-patients and out-patients of VSMMC on shorter turnaround time and no duplicity of requirements. It operates 24/7 and is managed by the Medical Social Service under the direct supervision of the MCC. The Malasakit Center Act (RA 11463) was signed into law in 2019, a year after it started its operation. POS-OREP or Point of Service – Onsite Rapid Enrolment Program is a program provided by the GAA of 2017 to register non-Philhealth members into the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP) thereby providing them immediate entitlement to Philhealth benefits as NBB. As provided by PHIC Circular No. 033-2015, assessment and enrolment of the qualified patients has to be done by a DOH-trained and licensed Social Worker. VSMMC is one of the first in the Philippines to implement enrolment to the program (then called POC-Point of Care) in December 2013. |
TRAINING AND RESEARCH |
This Unit takes care of the periodic Statistical Reports, Accomplishment Reports, Psychosocial Profile and Annual Reports of the services and programs of the Medical Social Service. It does research on the service delivery for improvement of patient experience. The Unit monitors and sees to it that all staff undergoes necessary interventions for professional updating and advancement as required by the Learning and Development pillar of PRIME-HRM. |
